How to use twitter for your business

If you have not started using twitter for your business, what are you waiting for? Whether you have a large corporation or a small local business, twitter can be an extreme advantage for your company. In this article, we will let you know what twitter has to offer you and you will quickly want to start taking advantage! Although twitter uses some of the same techniques as other social networking sites such as Facebook and Pinterest, it is a more unique way of social networking. One thing that makes twitter so unique is that you are only allowed to use 140 characters to send out your message (tweet). This can really test your creativity with tweets!

Tips for Twitter

The most important first step is creating a very catchy twitter handle. This handle will be placed everywhere there is a tweet that comes from you. If you are trying to brand yourself, use your name. If you are branding your company, use abbreviations of your business’ name. There is a very small area for you to showcase your business on twitter, so use it wisely. You can upload a professionally designed graphic file for the background and use your logo or headshot for your profile picture.

A little advice in case you are a newbie, take twitter slow. If you dive in head first, you may become overwhelmed quickly. Twitter lingo consists of followers, hashtags, trending, link shorteners, and retweeting… Just to name a few.  Once you get the hang of the lingo, you will be a pro in no time! Stay engaged with your followers. Retweet them often, thank them for following you, and get personal. Make them feel that you are connecting with them. The more engaged you are with them, they will be with you which only means great things in the future for your company.

Hashtags are extremely important once you master tweeting. Hashtags will make your tweet viewable by a larger audience and not just your followers. For example, if you are sharing a link to marketing article you recently wrote about, type #marketing at the end of your tweet. When someone is wanting to look up tweets only pertaining to marketing, they can search that keyword and only those tweets will be viewable. You can add as many hashtag words as you would like as long as you are under the 140 character limit. Give yourself a week of using twitter and you will already start talking in hashtags! Guaranteed! 😉
